smoking ciggerettes on concussion
by: Anonymous

can smoking ciggarettes on a concussion cause further brain damage?? I have post concussion syndrome.. some doctors said it's ok ..others say it was extremely important not to..I feel I have caused myself brain damage from them.. Will my brain heal if I quit??

Answer:

Good question! Nicotine binds to nerve tissue (the brain) and irritates it tremendously. Therefore, it will continue to exacerbate all the symptoms of post concussive syndrome and the brain will probably not heal. Can it heal? In some cases yes..given time, rest and medication. The only way in your case, to tell, is to quit. You will save yourself a lot of money AND perhaps cancer in the future.
