If you have been keeping up on the latest advances in headache research then this might be old news to you...but if you haven't here is some great updates!

1. Imitrex is going generic by the end of the year! Two generic pharmaceutical companies have received permission from the FDA to make sumatriptan, the generic form of Imitrex. The formulation will not have the trademark RT technology in the tablet. This technology allows Imitrex to "burst" apart in your stomach making it absorbed a bit faster. None the less the generic will be available in the current doses of tablets and MUCH cheaper!

The nasal spray and injectable Imitrex will still be available but in brand name only.

2. New research about Namenda! The Alzheimer's drug has previously shown good potential as a preventative (daily) medication in reducing the frequency of migraine. A new study confirmed this and although a small study, the authors have recommended full blown clinical trials. Our clinic at Dent Neurologic is looking into this and may participate or initiate a study...more on this in future ezines. you hopefully relaxed this holiday weekend and did not do too much running around, I hope you had some pain free days.

Here's To Headache Free Days!

Take care..
