Headache In Children

by Sally S.
(Chattanooga Tennessee)

my 12 year old son has headache everyday...he has had blood test for lupas and varios others with all normal return, including eyes check.... any suggestions.....they are so bad that you can look at him and tell he has one...

Answer

Hi Sally,

Children with headaches need to be taken seriously and should see a neurologist. A good pediatric neurologist should be able to treat this, but many adult neurologists are seeing children your son's age if no one else is available to treat them.

Over the counter medications will only help for a short time and in the long run will make his headache worse by causing analgesic rebound headaches.

Good luck!
