Fever Headache

Hi, this is Mary.

You have a great site that interests us greatly! I'm bookmarking it now. If you have any Christmas Traditions or unique Christmas gifts to share we'd love to have them on our site if you have the time. If you do one related to your site or would like a link back just say so, and to which page. If you see fit to post our link we'd appreciate it too!Christmas Traditions.

Here is our headache story:

My daughter had a fever and then a severe headache 2.5 years ago that left her on the couch for nearly 3 weeks and precipitated a month of loosing nearly half her hair! We almost took her to the doctors to "ask the expert" but found homeopathic remedies that helped enough that we didn't go to a doctor for about two months.

She was beginning to look like a Chemo victim at one point. We found several Homeopathic remedies that worked. Graphites stopped the hair falling out. How do we know? No more brushes full of hair. Syphylinum restored her hair growth. How do we know? She had oodles of little hairs standing up on end all over her head within the month.

When we did go to the doctor he pointed out that she might be allergic to Citric Acid, MSG and such and he copied a page out of a Natural Remedies book that described that this might be the main cause of her headaches. The website "Truth in labeling" was a giant help with the sneaky ways of "hiding" MSG, etc. She has avoided the chemicals that she learned to identify from the Truth in Labeling site, yet on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being flat out on the couch she is grateful to hardly ever go above a 2. She is usually at a 1 and looking for a way to get rid of that last 1 !!!

We would be happy for any suggestions.

Answer:

Hi Mary,

You do not say if there is a family history of headaches or migraines. Often a "stressor" to the body such as an infection or even a surgical procedure can kick off headaches.

Hair loss after severe illness is more common than you think. Although alternative therapies probably did help, as the body recovers the hair usually starts growing back within a few months.

As far a her headaches are concerned, she may be having a form of post-viral syndrome which is a daily headache. Please be aware that headaches in children can be serious. A severe fever with headache (in my world of neurology!) is deemed meningitis until proven otherwise.

Unfortunately, if this has been going on for years at this point I would recommend she see a neurologist. A pediatric neurologist is best and preferably one who is good at headache. She may have to be on daily medication for a few months to get these under control. The longer the headache pain goes on, the more difficult it is to control it.

Most children respond well to lifestyle changes and do especially well on vitamins for headache.

Good luck!
